Can Turner Conveyors
How to turn tin cans over using conveyors?
The easy solution for inverting cans is to use a twist box.
This project was to manufacture a unique bespoke conveyor system of a belt conveyor arrangement which comes with a twistbox to handle empty cans turning through a vacuum clean out system. which is being fed from a turntable feed through to the another conveyor Line.

Twistbox Conveyor Supplied by C-Trak Ltd
1st Twistbox Conveyor1 No. Belt Conveyor being 175mm wide x 1550mm long x 950mm high supplied with double height rod side guides. Incorporated along the length was a twistbox arrangement to invert the can through 180 degrees.
Vacuum Section1 No. Vacuum Section being 175mm wide x 600mm long supplied with open “V-fan” base angled down to connect to a 6” diameter vacuum pipe via a quick release fitting. There was a single horizontal rod support over the open area above the “V fan” and mounted within the 6” area is a pipe nozzle for air blast cleanout. This pipe is connected to an air filter line via a valve to blast the can over the “V fan”.
2nd Twistbox Conveyor
1 No. Belt Conveyor being 175mm wide x 1000mm long x 950mm high supplied with a double height rod side guides. Incorporated along the length is a twistbox arrangement to invert the can through 180 degrees.
The equipment was mounted on a box section framework supplied with adjustable feet +50mm.
All equipment included handwheel removable, bolt on clear makrolon covers throughout. Both conveyors have lift up ends to release the belt for cleaning. Both twist boxes have a fine height adjustment with hand wheel removable feature for size changeover.
General construction was grade 304 stainless steel and food quality materials where possible, shaft mounted geared motor drive units were included.
The equipment is controlled and monitored by a plastic central electric panel locally mounted and was supplied with all field sensors as appropriate. Allowance was made to remove and replace as necessary the existing st st trunking, and relay existing upstream sensor wiring and link it to the system. This sensor previously stops the can turntable and modular belt conveyor if cans are backed up, we can pick up a volt free contact in the can turntable controls.
The equipment included two e/stops positioned at either end diametrically opposite.
